Work Out When You Can

Working out while on holiday can pose its fair share of challenges. First, there are the mental hurdles associated with working out during the holidays that you have to overcome. You may feel unmotivated to work out between holiday obligations and poor weather conditions.

This is especially the case if you are traveling for the holidays. If you are traveling for the holidays, you also run into the issue of being away from your gym and not having the necessary equipment you generally use.

The simple solution? Work out when you can!

There are plenty of workouts that you can do that don’t require access to a gym or a weight room. The reality is that you won’t get as many workouts in as you would at home, and the quality might not be the same, but that shouldn’t stop you from being active this holiday season.

Morning jogs, body-weight exercises, and even taking long walks around the neighborhood to look at holiday decorations are fantastic ways to stay active. At the end of the day, getting your heart rate up is better than not doing it at all.

Don’t Go To Dinner On An Empty Stomach

Another healthy habit of practicing this holiday season is to be mindful of overeating at your holiday dinners. While it may be tempting to indulge in all your favorite holiday dishes, practicing mindfulness while eating can be the difference between overeating and eating until you are satisfied.

A great way to ensure that you do not overeat at your holiday dinner is to make sure you do not leave for dinner on an empty stomach. Eating fresh fruit or yogurt a little before dinner will stop you from eating with your eyes and overloading your plate.

Watch Your Alcohol Intake

It may be tempting to indulge in wine and spirits at holiday parties and over dinner. While there is cause for partaking in the celebrations, you’ll want to limit how many empty calories you consume. Alcohol poses a double threat to your fitness goals. Not only does alcohol contain a lot of calories, but drinking those calories means they can add up very quickly. Liquid calories can sneak under the radar and cause you to take in a lot of calories before the feeling of being full sets in.

Only Keep The Healthy Leftovers

After your holiday dinner, it would be wise to keep only the healthy leftovers. So that you aren’t tempted to eat desserts and sweets in the days to come, instead, give those sweet desserts to your family and guests to enjoy if you’ve packed your holiday dinners with plenty of superfoods. You can enjoy those for the next few days while skipping out on the extra sugar.
