Are the electrode pads for your HiDow TENS unit just not sticking the way that they used to when they were brand new? That’s alright, it’s naturally going to happen over time with use. But that doesn’t mean that you can’t take initiative to make your TENS pads stick again or even better, make them stick longer!
Why TENS Unit Pads Lose Their Grip
If you want to make sure that your TENS unit’s pads stick longer so that you can get more use out of them, then we need to understand why they lose their grip and what we can do to prevent that from happening. Now there is no magic solution that will make your TENS electrode pads sticky forever, but like most things, with some tender love and care, you can make them last just a little while longer.
The biggest reason for TENS devices losing their grip is that dust, dirt, hair, and even skin cells cover the sticky surface. As the pads get more and more used, the stick will wear off until it is time to replace the whole pad. So, what can we do to make sure that we keep our electrode pads clean?
Clean Your Skin Before Use
Before you use your HiDow TENS/EMS device, you want to be sure that you clean your body, especially the spot where the electrode pad is going. While normally you would be okay with wiping down the spot with a wet wipe, you want to go above and beyond. To make sure that your skin is really clean, hop in the shower to wash and exfoliate before using your TENS device.
Exfoliating and washing the affected area before applying an electrode pad will make sure that there is no dust, dirt, hair, or flaky skin attached to the pad. So when you remove the pad, it will be free of those particles that kill the stick.
Clean off Debris and Oils After Use
When you apply your electrode pads after you clean your skin, use your TENS/EMS device as you normally would. When you are all done though, rather than ripping the pads off and putting them away, take a few minutes to clean off the pads. The best way to remove any debris or oil from your skin that may have stuck to the pads is to wipe it down with a damp rag. You want to be sure to wipe it down well but try to avoid using an abrasive rag or brush.
Use Electrode Gels and Sprays
While preventative care can go a long way in extending the life of your electrode pads, at a certain point you will need to find a way to make them sticky again. The best way to do this is to use an electrode spray for your TENS pads. This will help extend the life of your pads and give them that much-needed boost so that you can keep living pain-free for a while longer.
