December is a time when the family gets together and celebrates each other’s company. However, December also brings on lots of cold temperatures and tons of snow. When temperatures start to fall does your body start to feel more aches and pains? Many wake up asking themselves “why does my body hurt during cold months?” We’ll be answering these questions and more.
Does The Cold Affect My Body?
During the winter months, the number of biometric pressure drops due to the cold temperatures. This drop in pressure may cause your tendons, muscles, and tissue to stiffen up in reaction. When these vital body parts stiffen then you may find yourself working a little harder to move. Overall, when your tendons, muscles, and tissue stiffen then you may experience pain as well. This is one of the leading theories to the question “why does my body hurt during cold months?”
However, there isn’t a scientific explanation as to why cold temperatures may cause pain within the body. There are multiple theories behind it but nothing as of yet has answered the “why does my body hurt during cold months?”
Should I Talk To A Doctor?
Should you speak with a doctor if you’re constantly in pain during the winter months? Yes! You should absolutely speak to your doctor and find a diagnosis. Often, pain is an indicator of other negative health factors. Heart disease, diabetes, arthritis, and other negative health issues may be the cause of the pain.
It’s never a good idea to ignore pain since it’s only avoiding your health condition. A doctor may diagnose the pain and prescribe treatment accordingly. They may prescribe a pain relief treatment like TENS/EMS or find another treatment.
Pain Relief Treatment
When the body is feeling pain during freezing temperatures then you’re probably looking for relief. One way to treat pain is to find a TENS/EMS unit. TENS stands for transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation. EMS is short for electrical muscle stimulation. These two types of therapies help the body combat pain in a natural way.
TENS works by limiting pain signals from reaching the brain. EMS works by sending electrical impulses to muscles to compress and contract. In response to this therapy, the body may release endorphins. This hormone is the body’s natural pain killer. Once enough endorphins are released then the body won’t feel as much pain.
Reduce Pain Risks
One of the best ways to reduce pain is to have a balanced diet and exercise regularly. When the body is in an active state then it can lower negative health factors like heart disease or obesity. Heart disease is a huge contributor to pain. Some workouts may prevent pain as well.
Yoga workouts are a perfect way to get the body active from the comfort of your home. These types of exercises correct any imbalances and strengthen the core. When the body is more flexible then the likelihood of body stiffness lowers. As a result, this may lower pain during cold months.
Stay Warm
If your body is in pain during the winter months then you may want to find relief. One natural remedy is to stay warm and active. During the cold months your joints, muscles, and tendons may stiffen up. When the body is stiff then it may cause pain. However, when the body is warm then tendons, ligaments, and muscles tend to move easier. This flexibility may combat any stiffness that comes during freezing temperatures.
During the winter months, the body’s natural fluid inside your joints may thicken. This may cause pain since the fluid is having a tougher time moving. Wearing extra protective clothing can help the body stay warm and flexible.
